The Missing Ingredient in Your Marketing Message – What’s Your Secret Sauce?

| February 7, 2012 | 0 Comments

So you’ve identified your target market, the services they are most hungry for, and set your prices correctly. Your next step in launching smart is to develop a unique selling position (USP) or as I like to call it – your Secret Sauce!

Note: It’s best to do this before you get your business cards and set up or revise website.

Your secret sauce is what sets your product or service apart from others on the market. It’s what increases your conversion rates and turns potential customers into paying customers.

Two Key Questions to Figuring Out Your Secret Sauce:

  • What makes the product or service you are offering different & more desirable than your competition?
  • Why would your customer buy your product instead of your competitors?

An ingredient in my secret sauce for my social media consulting business is “practical and profitable.” Here are some other examples to inspire you:

  • Fast, no-hassle service
  • Step-by-step help
  • “XX” in a box (i.e. all the work is done for you)
  • Fresh, not frozen, processed, etc.
  • Pay for results only.
  • Eco-friendly
  • Money-back guarantee

Your “secret sauce” should be incorporated into your marketing materials and elevator pitch. And make sure your USP is clear in your online branding as well, including your website, blog and sales pages. Remember, if this is what truly makes you stand out to your target market, then making it known will have a profitable payoff.
